Memorial window for Julie Adams (Linda)
New Kilpatrick Church, Bearsden
2008
Church of Scotland
Julie was one of Linda's close friends. She died of cancer, age 40. This window is a gift, "For Friendship". All the glass selected is the best, English and French Antique glass.
A lead-line drawing is made over the full scale painting. This window is one of two which are being made. Julie's sister-in-law, Ruth Adams, is designing and making the other one.
Working late at night in the studio, painting the working palettes.
Each piece of glass cut is exquisitely rich.
Glass good enough to eat.
Black bitumen is painted over the glass to act as an acid resist.
Hydrofluoric acid bites into the coloured glass to remove just enough colour to give the desired effect. We do not always like to bite right through to the clear.
The front surface is painted with Debitus green and rose pigments. Oster Winchester stains on the reverse.
Detail of finished painting before leading up.
If you would like to contribute towards the cost of this window, in memory of Julie, please contact Linda directly, who will give you details of the Memorial Windows Fund Account. Donations can be deposited anonymously if desired. 50% of all money raised will go directly to Marie Curie Cancer Care, with thanks from her family and friends.
