Removal of the "Glasgow" Window by Alf Webster (Rab & Linda)
Lansdowne Parish Church, Glasgow
2007
Four Acres Charitable Trust
This window is arguably one of the finest in Scotland. It needed to be removed before it collapsed due to insufficient support over 100 years.
A very expenseve, specialist scaffold was erected to prevent damage during the downtaking. Thanks to Maurice Jackson for assisting us.
Each panel was carefully examined and recorded on-site before safely storing.
Condition Report: some panels came apart as soon as they were released from the window frame. Everything was recorded, photographed and archived.
Condition Report: most panels had some backplating. Some of the plates had long since fallen off. These were recovered, recorded and archived.
Condition Report: all glass cracks, and lead / solder cracks were recorded.
Temporary storage was custom built for this window, with plenty of ventilation. All the panels are supported with 12mm black plastizote sheet.
